Synopsis:
Wake Island, a small atoll in the Pacific, 1941. Major Geoffrey Caton (Brian Donlevy) arrives to command the small Marine garrison, which is building defences on the island alongside civilian contractors led by McCloskey (Albert Dekker), who resents military authority. While Japanese envoys are in Washington for peace talks, Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, and the same day Japanese planes bomb Wake. The heavily outnumbered Marines, with only a few guns and planes, hold off the Japanese fleet and air attacks for days. A war film directed by John Farrow, based on the defence of Wake Island in December 1941, with William Bendix and Macdonald Carey.
