Synopsis:
Hoboken, New Jersey. Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando), a former boxer, works on the docks, which are controlled by the corrupt union boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb), whose lawyer is Terry's elder brother Charley (Rod Steiger). One night, Terry unknowingly helps Friendly's men lure his friend Joey Doyle, who was going to testify against the mob, to a rooftop, where he is killed. Haunted by guilt, Terry falls in love with Joey's sister Edie (Eva Marie Saint), while the local priest, Father Barry (Karl Malden), urges the dockworkers to break their silence. Directed by Elia Kazan; winner of eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Marlon Brando.
