Synopsis:

New York, 1899. Jack Kelly (Christian Bale), a streetwise newsboy nicknamed Cowboy, sells newspapers on the streets and dreams of one day going west to Santa Fe and living free as a real cowboy. One day, the brothers David (David Moscow) and Les join the newsies, and they become friends. When the publisher Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall) raises the price the newsboys pay for their papers, Jack unites the newsboys of New York in a strike. But Pulitzer uses the police and thugs to crush them, and Crutchy, a newsboy with a lame leg, is arrested and sent to a reformatory. A musical directed by Kenny Ortega, based on the true story of the newsboys' strike, with Bill Pullman and Ann-Margret.
